Blue and white décor have been used throughout history to create a timeless design. Blue and white porcelain is the most commonly thought of blue and white décor. These designs were usually painted on by hand in the past and made in China, however, the origin of these designs and pottery is thought to be in Iraq. Pieces of this blue and white décor have been found dating all the way back to the Tang Dynasty in the 9th century, however, only shreds have been found from this era. During this era the material wasn’t porcelain but earthenware. This means that the painted pieces were made mostly of clay.
Throughout the 14th century the earthenware had developed into a beautiful white porcelain that you now well today. This type of décor was made in China and gave China the nickname porcelain capitol of the world. During this time the beautiful white porcelain was hand brushed with beautiful blue designs.
Throughout the years this porcelain has been popular in Europe and the America’s. After a while however, and current date, many of the Chinese blue and white porcelain is replicas. There are many original pieces out there but you will pay a nice price to have them. However, finding replicas and using them in your home is much cheaper and you will still love the look.
