Decluttering: Where to Start
When decluttering your home, you may feel overwhelmed. This is going to help you begin the decluttering process and help you through it. Decluttering is not an easy process and it does take time, which is something you need to remember. This is not going to happen overnight. The first thing you need to do when thinking about decluttering your home is to visualize what you want your space to look like. This will help you stay on track because you know what you want. Now once you have visualized what you want the space to look like you can begin but follow these few tips.
Never bring any new items into your home during the decluttering process. This will just add more clutter and less declutter. Wait until the whole process is done before bringing in new accessories.
Like stated above, this process is not an overnight process. It takes time. You need to mentally prepare yourself for this process. You may end up with a worse mess than what was originally there, however, this is all part of the decluttering process. To also help you mentally prepare for this process, place the game plan on your calendar. This will prepare you for the time it will take to complete this project.
Before you begin you will want to gather a trash bag, donation bag, and a bin. Throw away stuff you do not need, donate things someone else could use, and use the bin for things that belong in a different area of your home.
Now, when you are ready to begin, start with the space that has been bothering you the most. This will ease your stress and anxiety the quickest. If you declutter the place that bothers you the most you are more likely to finish the project. Once this room or area is done move on to what you can see needs to be decluttered. Do not be picky about everything just simply start with the bigger more noticeable items. Big stuff can cause clutter too, so don’t forget about those. Once you are done with the big stuff move on to the more smaller and less noticeable items.
When decluttering it is important that you tackle one item at a time. Focusing on more than one can cause stress and anxiety. This may cause you not to finish the project you have started. So, keep it simple, one item at a time and soon enough your home will be decluttered.
