I’m not exactly sure how science and research measure intelligence or how they even define it. For the sake of this post, I’m talking about the ability a person can to learn and apply the knowledge well. The more you study and use your brain, the more knowledge you acquire, the more things you do well, the smarter you are. Of course you can start talking about people’s inherent abilities, things passed down by their genes, etc. All that matters here is, if you are an intelligent human being than you are responsible to use your brain for good.
An entrepreneur that uses his skills to create a product that makes people addicted, he knows he can exploit that and make money, how can he do it? If your skills allow you to build something that you know it’s not good for society, how could you do it? The universe giving us this wonderful tool and we use against it? It’s beyond ungratefulness, it’s undeserving, and you should remember, it could be taken from you, any day.
The phrase “With great power comes great responsibility” it’s the perfect motto here. Your intelligence is your power, you need to use it for good. For the good of people and the planet. It’s everyone’s responsibility. I do believe that also with higher intelligence comes higher conscience, and you can’t suppress it, even if you try it. You know what’s the right thing to do. And choosing not to makes us all feel horrible, we just need to take some time in silence and we’ll hear it. That inner voice doesn’t go away.
Of course, one can say that if the person was actually intelligent they would not do something bad, but maybe intelligence doesn’t relate directly to goodness. I just hope we all take the time to reflect, are we using our intelligence for good? Is this the best way to use my skills and knowledge? It’s by judging our own actions that we can make the world a better place, I truly believe that.
