Gandhi told us to be the change we want to see in the world. But have you stopped to think what is the world you want? Most people would say, a peaceful world. But are your actions making this world a possibility? Are your kids playing with gun toys (even if they are only the water ones), are you watching violent tv shows that make killing and hurting a “cool thing?” Are you watching boxing as entertainment? We can go very deep on this. But I won’t today. Because I want to imagine a little beyond peace.
How else would my world look like? It would be calm, organized and free of clutter. People would talk to each other. People would work doing what they love. It would have more nature than shops, more trees than high risers, less people and more animals. People would trust and support each other. Fear would be treated with kindness. People would read more, drink less, walk more and drive less. People would need to make less of a statement through fashion because their voice would be heard. People would work hard on the things it mattered to them, and less on the things that don’t. People wouldn't eat animals. Cancer wouldn’t exist. Health would be everyone’s top goal and nobody would take it for granted. Children would be born as a result of a well thought decision. People would spend more time with their loved ones and less time trying to impress others on social media. Actually, social media wouldn’t exist.
Yes, it’s a dream. But are my actions alined with those dreams? Am I gifting people items that can clutter their lives? Am I talking to people I meet on the go? Am I supporting people in doing what they love? Am I supporting local parks? Am I trusting strangers into doing their part? Am I advocating for less time online? I could be doing a lot better. Here are a few ideas:
Meet my neighbors, talk to them
Talk to people I meet
Stop watching violent tv shows and movies
Don’t gift things people don’t need
Don’t create things people don’t need
Support people into doing what they love
Write my books
Support animal shelters
Support family planning
Support groups that fight for our natural treasures
Go for more walks
Share more about my favorite books
Judge people less about how they look
Continue to share vegan recipes
Become more natural, depend less on technology
Put my health at the top of everything and never take it for granted
Advocate for meditation and yoga
Go for a walk and be grateful everyday
Spend more time with family and friends in person
Those are just a few ideas, this is a great exercise that kids should be doing in school. I would encourage everyone to take the time and put this list together.
Thanks for reading.
