This Saturday morning I woke up feeling quite happy. And it’s probably because it’s my first day off from work in a long time. And even though I love my work, a job is a job and sometimes you just need a break. Even if it’s from your own business. Or maybe it’s because the house is sparkly clean, maybe it’s because I don’t have a to do list for the day or simply because I slept well.
As I drank my tea I started to think about the relation between habits and traditions. Do other people need to be involved for something to become a tradition? Do habits need to be repeated everyday? Because even though I drink my tea every morning, that isn’t a tradition, it’s a habit. But what if every Sunday morning I made pancakes? Would that be a habit or a tradition? What if both my husband and I made the pancakes together? The meaning of the words can be simply figured out by looking it up on Google. But that’s not what I want to figure out.
How does one go about creating family traditions? How do they become one? Simply by choosing to or mainly by repetition? Looking back to my childhood we had a few traditions, but I don’t think they were created on purpose. The same breakfast on the weekends, the family games, etc… they just happened. But I’m such a nerd for planning, than I want to create my traditions, I don’t want to wait for them to happen. And I don’t want to wait until we have kids to do have them either. Do traditions need a minimum of 3 to work? Not in my opinion.
So now up to the fun part, what traditions do I want to create?
Thanks for reading.
