Preparing breakfast in bed

Breakfast in bed is a simple pleasure and surefire way to start someone’s day off on the right foot. Preparing breakfast in bed can feel overwhelming so let’s break it down into foolproof easy-to-follow steps to make it successful:

  • First, find your tray. If you’re going to be carrying plates of food and full glasses you’re going to need a tray to set them on - preferably a tray with raised sides to help prevent spills and keep dishes in place.
  • Second, create your menu. When serving breakfast in bed food is the star of show. Great options include waffles, omelets, bagels, fruit bowls, pancakes, and hashbrowns. It’s important to choose foods you can cook quietly (smoothies are great but blenders are loud and will blow the surprise).
  • Third, prepare the food as quietly as possible. You can go from a picturesque breakfast in bed to a visitor midway through cooking if you aren’t careful. If possible, set needed items out and prep the food the night before and make sure to clean up after you’re done cooking. You don’t want a dirty kitchen to be a buzzkill.
  • Fourth, only pour liquids (especially hot drinks) only 3/4 of the way. This will help prevent spilling onto the bed linens or the person your serving.
  • Fifth, add sincere finishing touches. Examples include: cloth napkins, flowers or flower petals on the tray, or a handwritten card. You can provide entertainment by turning on a favorite TV show, listening to music, providing a novel, or sit and visit for a while.
  • Seventh, make sure to clean up. You should have already picked up the kitchen but don’t forget to clear the tray and do the dishes when the meal is finished. That’s it. You’re done!
