Let me get this across, the first Independence Day is probably one of my favorite movies of all time. Not because I think it is a masterpiece, but because I grew up watching it. I have awesome memories of my family watching together on vacation, where everyone got a blanket and shared pizza and snacks. My dad and brother really liked it too. It used to be one of those movies that we always watched together. So I really like the first movie.
When I heard that they were coming up with the second one, I got really excited! So excited that we watched on Thursday (early release) in Cape Cod, where we were for vacation. And we got to the theaters half hour early so we could get good seats. I know, lame or nerdy. But that’s ok, I take pride on my nerdy moments.
But I guess my expectations were way too high. Yes, it was entertaining but oh man, the cheesy lines. It just throws me off so much when I hear the really bad lines. The movie would probably be much better if it was a silent movie. I liked how they connect the story to the first one but I wish the time gap wasn’t that big. I guess I would have preferred if the older actors had a bigger part on the movie. The young characters made the movie a bit too much for kids. It would have been nicer and more realistic for their job positions if they were older, with families, etc. But they do that with most movies nowadays.
I do think it’s good enough to go watch in the movie theater but only if you really liked the first one, because this new one definitely doesn’t compare.
