Do you ever wonder what it would be like to have been born in a different time? And I’m not just talking about what technology they had or what clothes they wore, but what kind thought would you have if you were born then? What would you feel?
I find pretty complex to be young and alive in 2016. We have so much information and it gets overwhelming sometimes. I consider myself pretty lucky to have electricity all figured out, women rights acknowledged, driving is a common thing for everyone. But we carry a heavy weight too, we know better. And that is the scary part of this generation in my opinion. We know and therefore there aren’t excuses. We know what we should be eating, we know the benefits of exercising, a lot of us know how far to take our beliefs and respect others. We know we shouldn’t watch too much TV, spend too much time on our phones, and that we should the take time to help others.
We know to volunteer, not be lazy and work hard, we know we shouldn’t smoke, drink too much, and be nice to our parents. We know about protected sex, freedom to love who we want, we know not to take certain things too serious. We know not to believe in everything we see on TV or magazines. We know the power of photoshop and that appearances isn’t what matters. We know to love our families, to talk to the kids and not use violence.
We know we need to sleep well, and not to have too much caffeine. We know reading expands our horizons and too much sugar is bad. We know that organic is better, that we need to study, and say thank you. We know to listen more and be open minded. We know not to judge people by their looks, religion, politics, color. We are blessed with knowledge and a way to get infinite information.
We can take as many pictures as we want and record any memory we want. We can call anyone we love at any time and see them too. We can reverse the problems we caused to the planet and to our bodies. We can improve ourselves, change ourselves, go back to school at any time in our lives. We have a second chance every day. We know how to prove our citizen rights and we have freedom. We are so lucky to be here right now.
But this is scary. So much privilege and power and our responsibilities are through the roof. Can we handle this pressure to perfection? Why so many of us fail every day to follow through with what we already know? I find pretty complicated sometimes to live up to my own expectations. It’s a constant battle to do what is right because there aren’t any more excuses. We got all we need. I think it’s time to appreciate how wonderful is to be alive in 2016. I think the world is ready for wonderful people to thrive and we should be careful to not waste such a wonderful opportunity. The human race went through so much to get us where we are today, why don’t we feel more grateful? I hope we realize this before is too late. And of course, I know that unfortunately this isn't the reality for some parts of the world. Maybe we should start by making the rest of the world just as lucky as we are.
