Growing up I watched Christmas movies and wished for snow, but it was the hottest time of the year in Brazil. No hot chocolate, no snow, no ice skating… we also didn’t bake cookies. It’s a special time of the year as well but nothing like in America.
Since I got married, almost 8 years ago and moved to the US I wanted to have Christmas traditions. December has always been a busy time of the year but this year I want to make those traditions stick for good.
I like to start the season by decorating the house and the tree on the weekend after Thanksgiving. Christmas music and hot chocolate are a must for this. As December arrives I want to make time to go see a play or a ballet. Seeing the Nutcracker in NYC has been on my list for many years. Also a trip to NYC to go ice skating at the Rockefeller Center. As the weeks go by, watching Christmas movies and playing games as it gets cold outside is always fun. Driving around to see the decorations in the neighborhood is one of my favorite things to do. Some people like to take a family photo and decorate a gingerbread house, maybe I can start those next year. Also would love to create my own wreath for the door. And it wouldn’t be Christmas without baking cookies. And for Christmas morning I want to have pancakes in new pajamas while opening presents, which got include a new ornament of course.
I’m guessing those are all pretty classic american traditions, what are yours?
